ANDREA MARCOVICCI—a KURT WEILL VALENTINE
February 14 @ 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm
Wed., Feb. 14. VALENTINE’S DAY with ANDREA MARCOVICCI (a “Kurt Weill Valentine,” with Brad Ellis at the piano, Nate Light on bass, and Jimmy Emerzian, sax.) No one gives romance like Marcovicci at The Gardenia, and post-pandemic, she gives it even better. Don’t let this Valentine’s Day go by without indulging yourself in that which Andrea does best— and on this most romantic day of the year, you won’t have a better Valentine’s Day anywhere else.
Perhaps inspired by his wife, Lotte Lenya, or perhaps inspired by the words of our greatest lyricists, (Ira Gershwin and Alan J. Lerner, to name just two,) Weill seems to have reserved his most indelible melodies for songs of love. Highlights are “My Ship,” “It Never Was You,” and “Speak Low,” and, as anticipated with any Marcovicci show, “you’ll find yourself laughing and learning:” how Kurt Weill, this German émigré, was destined to become an American treasure.
—Frequently introduced as “the Queen of Cabaret,” Ms. Marcovicci transformed the genre, has created over 35 nightclub acts at The Gardenia, and holds the record—an unprecedented 25 seasons—at the legendary Oak Room at NYC’s Algonquin Hotel—
