SUMMARY:AUDREY APPLEBY
DESCRIPTION:Sat.\, March 8.  AUDREY APPLEBY\, in “Life…A Seduction Tour.”  Based primarily in New York and Paris\, Ms. Appleby is a singer/songwriter/poetess who has invented a new genre she calls “Hot Chill\,” whose recent show at Pangea earned glowing reviews.  Ms. Appleby has also performed in New York at Steinway Hall (breaking a 100 year “classical music only” tradition!) and at BargeMusic (under the Brooklyn Bridge\,) as well as at Rockwood Music Hall\, The Top Of The Tower at the Beekman Tower Hotel\, Makor\, The Triad\, and The Ballroom; she has performed in Paris at Caveau De La Huchette\, Cafe Universel\, Peniches Balle Au Bon\, Le Calife\, Chez Papa\, and Le Bilboquet\, and she has performed at The American Embassy in Lyon.  She was the recipient of an ASCAP/MAC award in New York for her original song “Miami Mosaic\,” and was chosen as “pick of the week” for Paris Time Out Magazine during her European tour.  She has won numerous awards and citations along the way.  Performing with a dancer’s grace\, she and her work can perhaps be best described through the words of others:   “The most beautiful music to be on this stage.”…Michael Kerker\, Director\, Manhattan Association of Cabarets/ASCAP.  “Audrey’s music invokes the combined mystique of world-traveler meets everyday woman meets romance-novel heroine…it is a ticket out of ordinary reality and into the realm of unabashed fantasy.”… Melissa Middleton\, Director\, Good News Gospel Choir.  “Latin infused jazz/cabaret\, cool\, sultry\, soaring\, with fine musicianship\, rhythm\, and instrumentation. An interesting perspective with a mix of vantage points in subject matter\, from the singer’s personal experience\, to looking at the songs from a distance.”…Jon Mann\, Development and Arts Education\, Circle in the Square Broadway Theatre.  “Amusing observations that will hopefully revolutionize our culture some day.”…Mike Sembos\, Fairfield County Weekly.  “Extremely Clever…”  Bob Leone\, Songwriters Hall Of Fame.  Ms. Appleby’s show features “mostly original sambas\, salsas\, bossas\, and jazz\, with a few standards\,” sung primarily in English\, but with French\, Spanish\, and Italian fare as well\, all supported by a 5-piece band.  More can be learned at audreyappleby.com.

SUMMARY:TOM CULVER
DESCRIPTION:Sat.\, March 15.   TOM CULVER.  For those for whom lyrics\, melody\, tonality\, rhythm\, and interesting harmonic progressions are the most important elements of musical production\, Tom Culver’s shows provide veritable Master Classes in how music geniuses of the last century brought these five elements together to create the yet-to-be-surpassed mid-20th-Century  Great American Songbook.  As an added bonus at this show\, Mr. Culver references his new book\, released last June:  They Did It With Their Clothes On\, a peek behind the curtain at the wardrobe/costuming trade supporting the Hollywood entertainment industry during its most fascinating era. \n
