SUMMARY:ANDREA MARCOVICCI and MAUDE MAGGART
DESCRIPTION:Sun.\, Oct. 5\, at 8 p.m.  (Door opens and dinner service begins at 6 p.m.)   ANDREA MARCOVICCI and MAUDE MAGGART return for the final performance of their monthly Gardenia “residency” with “The Beatles and Beyond\,” which (sadly) coincides with Andrea’s last-ever show. \nFrequently introduced as “the Queen of Cabaret\,” (and parenthetically retiring from show-creation with this performance\,) Ms. Marcovicci transformed the “cabaret genre” in the ‘80’s\, has created over 35 solo nightclub acts at The Gardenia\, and holds the record—an unprecedented 25 seasons—at the celebrated Oak Room of The Algonquin Hotel—as well as the distinction of being the Oak Room’s final performer there before its closing.  She has combined forces with Maude Maggart\, considered by many to be Marcovicci’s heir apparent\, who can boast her own cabaret beginnings at The Gardenia a half generation later.  Our favorite endorsement of Ms. Maggart comes from Jim Bruce:  “If you have not yet heard Maude Maggart sing\, I envy you the moment of discovery because there is nothing quite like the very first time you realize what a talent she is.  Then again there is also nothing quite like every single time after.” \nThis show marks a celebration of sorts\, with Andrea capping off an amazing and enviable career of gestating and performing shows\, most of which were given life at The Gardenia\, and which permanently changed the character of “cabaret” in this country and abroad.  Although she has not abandoned singing\, other aspects of her multi-faceted talents continue to beckon.  And while we wish nothing but glory in her future\, we would be remiss not to acknowledge the bittersweet nature of this milestone.  Her loyalty and devotion to The Gardenia\, and her dedication and sense of responsibility to her art have been unequalled. \n
